Spring Steelhead Fishing

Spring brings fresh chrome steelhead into the system, with fish pushing upstream from Lake Ontario to spawn in the gravel runs and tributaries. Clearer water and warming temperatures make this one of the most exciting times for guided steelhead fishing trips on the Credit River.

Fall Steelhead Fishing

Cooler weather and rain in the fall trigger another strong migration of steelhead. Anglers can target aggressive fish in prime swing water using Spey rods and light sink tips. The autumn colours along the Credit add to an unforgettable day on the water.

Winter Steelhead Fishing

Winter on the Credit offers a quieter, more technical challenge. With fewer anglers and crystal-clear water, this season rewards patience and precision. A skilled steelhead guide helps navigate the conditions and locate active fish in deeper wintering pools.

One of Ontario’s Most Historic Steelhead Rivers

About The Credit River

Located just 30 minutes from downtown Toronto, the Credit River stretches over 90 kilometres from its headwaters above the Niagara Escarpment near Orangeville, flowing south through Caledon, Brampton, and Mississauga before meeting Lake Ontario in Port Credit.

Despite running through one of the most urbanized regions in Canada, the Credit River remains a productive and scenic system that draws anglers each year for its Great Lakes steelhead runs. It’s a rare mix of accessibility and natural beauty, offering diverse water and year-round angling opportunities.

Our Guide Season on The Credit River

A River Rich in History and Wildlife.

The Credit River has a deep natural and cultural heritage. In the 1700s and 1800s, it was home to an annual migration of native Atlantic salmon that once filled the river so thickly that early settlers said you could “walk on their backs.” Urbanization, warmer water temperatures, and habitat loss eventually led to their disappearance, but the Credit remains a vital watershed supporting a wide range of species.

Today, anglers may encounter steelhead, brown trout, chinook and coho salmon, and native brook trout in the upper reaches. The watershed also supports remarkable biodiversity with over 1,300 plant species, 64 fish species, 41 mammals, and over 240 bird species.
